Friends,

Louisianians are facing higher prices for food, gas, and flood insurance as a direct result of Pres. Biden’s policies. I’m still fighting to stop Biden’s war on Louisiana oil and gas jobs and urging the White House to let America return to the energy independence we achieved under Pres. Trump. As Louisiana rebuilds from severe hurricanes and tornadoes, I will keep working to deliver the disaster aid our communities need to rebuild.

St. Bernard Parish officials have already begun storm recovery efforts after tornadoes touched down in south Louisiana this March.

Fighting for disaster relief, defending flood insurance

The tornadoes that recently tore through south Louisiana added to the pain that Louisiana families have already endured in the wake of floods and historic hurricanes. I’ve seen Louisianians from Arabi to Lake Charles roll up their sleeves to help their neighbors rebuild. Our state’s resilience is humbling, but Louisianians still need help to recover.

As the only member of Louisiana’s Congressional delegation who sits on an Appropriations Committee, I secured almost $600 million for Louisiana’s recovery efforts last fall. When the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) dragged its feet on sending out billions of dollars in additional housing aid, I urged Pres. Biden to get that relief to Louisiana more quickly.

I’m glad to tell you that it looks like he listened, and the aid is coming. After months of delay, HUD is finally writing the check for that $1.7 billion, and the people of our great state will finally receive that support for housing that Hurricanes Laura, Delta, and Ida damaged.

I also urged the Federal Emergency Management Agency to waive monthly rent payments through the end of October for hurricane survivors in southwest Louisiana, and I’m continuing to fight the Biden administration’s Risk Rating 2.0 scheme, which is raising the cost of flood insurance for Louisianians.

Getting to eat lunch with more than 400 Louisianians in Monroe gave us the chance to talk about rural broadband and local projects that I’ve fought for as part of the Appropriations Committee.

Opposing Biden’s war on American energy

Our state produces almost a tenth of U.S. oil and gas, but Pres. Biden is determined to “end fossil fuels” and has already killed America’s energy independence. His administration’s assault on oil and gas has added to the highest inflation Louisianians have felt in 40 years, and I’m doing everything in my power to fight these dangerous policies.

I helped introduce the Small Scale LNG Access Act to make it easier for small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers to export LNG. Europe has become dependent on Russian gas, and Louisiana’s oil and gas workers are key to helping lower energy prices at home and wean U.S. allies off of Russian energy.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I also brought an LNG Center of Excellence to Louisiana, which will deliver more industry expertise and jobs to our state.

Meeting with CENLA locals this spring was a joy, and I’m focused on protecting the VA hospital and Social Security benefits for central Louisianians.

Keeping Louisianians safe and successful

Louisianians were paying more for food, gas, and home goods before Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine, but Pres. Biden’s radical spending policies have fueled inflation at home while lining the pockets of our enemies abroad.

Despite my repeated warnings, the Biden administration pushed through $650 billion in money for foreign countries while the White House knew Putin was lining up his army on Ukraine’s doorstep. When prices were rising in America, Pres. Biden greenlit $18 billion to go to Russia, $40 billion to China, and $4.5 billion to Iran.

Barksdale Air Force Base is hugely important to our economy and national security, and I’m thankful to hear about the crucial work they’re doing right now.

To fight this reckless foreign policy and protect Louisiana taxpayers, I introduced the No Dollars for Dictators Act to stop taxpayer dollars from going to countries that hate us. Russian aggression hurts America—it’s bad for our national security and for Louisiana’s economy.

Keeping costs low and creating jobs in America means standing up to Russia, China, and Iran. That’s why I also helped introduce a bill that would punish China if it attacks Taiwan, which is a major U.S. trading partner.

Introducing Washington to Louisiana culture is one of the best parts of my job, and it was a joy to celebrate Mardi Gras with Louisianians from across the state.

Louisiana faces many trials from inflation to a hostile White House, and I work each day to defend our jobs and our families.
