John: Gov. Lujan Grisham's law to legalize cannabis sales just went into effect, and it's already paying off.
Last weekend, New Mexico retailers were allowed to legally sell cannabis for the first time, and sales topped $5.2 million. It's clear that cannabis legalization is bringing an economic boom to our state – stimulating our local economies and creating valuable tax revenue.
Cannabis legalization is a win-win for our economies and our communities. Now that cannabis is legal, New Mexico can take a meaningful step toward righting the wrongs created by the war on drugs and its discriminatory effects, which have disproportionately harmed people of color.
Despite the clear benefits of legalization, over half of U.S. states still have cannabis penalties in place. Advocates are calling on the federal government to legalize recreational cannabis use in all 50 states, so we want to know what YOU think.
Please, respond to our poll before it closes at midnight:
Should cannabis be legal in all 50 states?
