Yesterday, we made history when Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed to a lifetime appointment on the U.S. Supreme Court. She is the first Black woman and the first public defender to be confirmed to the Supreme Court.  

This momentous occasion would not have happened without your help. 

This victory stands on the shoulders of your time, dedication, and enthusiasm to see an eminently qualified Black woman serve on our nation’s highest court. Just one indicator: Over 6,500 of you signed our petition asking the Senate to confirm Judge Jackson. There were over 431,000 views on our videos highlighting her qualifications. And countless activists flooded the phone lines, took to digital, and brought your communities into this fight. 

But now, it is time to celebrate this enormous victory.  

If you are in the Washington, D.C. area, please join us this weekend as we celebrate KBJ. 

• On Friday, April 8 at 4pm ET, join our sister organization Alliance for Justice, the National Women’s Law Center, and many other allies on the steps of the Supreme Court. Learn more here.
    
• On Saturday, April 9 at Noon ET, join us with She Will Rise and others at the intersection of 14th and S NW as we unveil a new mural in dedication to Justice Jackson. Bring your family for fun, music, food and entertainment!  

If you are not in the D.C. area, we would still love for you to join us virtually in celebration. Friday’s event will be livestreamed on the Alliance for Justice Facebook page TODAY starting at 4pm ET. We hope you will watch and engage with us online.

At AFJ Action, we know this victory would not have come without the incredible efforts to elect the President and Democratic Senate that nominated and confirmed her. We’re ready to educate voters about the impact of their Senators’ votes and the stakes for our courts – and our future – this year.  

We are so grateful for this incredible feat but remember the fight for our courts is far from over. President Biden and the Senate must keep up this momentum and fill every federal judicial vacancy this year. We need more judges who will protect the rights of all people, and with your support we can ensure that more judges like Justice Jackson will be nominated and confirmed to the federal bench.
