** Closing the gender pay gap must happen faster

This week, almost 10,000 organisations have reported their workplace gender pay gap - and whilst it's good to see progress towards tackling the gender pay gap in the UK, it's not happening fast enough.

Gender Pay Gap Reporting is an important step, but employers need to go further than data sharing. We have called for the Government to require every employer to create an action plan on how they will improve gender equality in their workplace.

Taking action to close the gender pay gap is not only a way to create productive, thriving and equal workplaces - it makes organisations more attractive places to work.

Take action on flexible working
92% of Mums who worked flexibly say they would find it difficult or impossible to do their job without it.

The Government have committed to consulting on making flexible work the default. This commitment was welcomed across the women’s sector – currently people must wait 6 months to just make an application. However, the recent consultation falls short. This is not enough - more can be done.

Fawcett, and our partners at the Flex for All Coalition, believe all reasonable flexible working options must be included at the point of advertising. This will put those who need it on a level playing field with those that don’t.

We know that getting MPs into a room and listening to the voices of experts and those with lived experiences is critical to getting things done and we are hosting a briefing on Thursday 21st April.

A campaign win for women 👏
Fawcett was delighted to see the success of the BPAS campaign, stopping the Government from scrapping the vital telemedical abortion service. Along with you, our wonderful supporters, we joined the calls on Government to protect women's access to safe, effective at-home abortion care.
