Dear John

Did you know that some of the wealthiest nations donate very little to
global family planning efforts? Ahead of the G20 ministers' meeting on
21-22 April, will you sign our petition urging G20 leaders to step up and
help end the unmet contraceptive need of women and girls?

An estimated 270 million women who want to avoid getting pregnant are not
using modern contraception, leading to high rates of unintended pregnancy,
unsafe abortions, and maternal and child mortality, as well as worsening
poverty and gender inequality. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)
is one of the main providers of sexual and reproductive health services in
the world and relies entirely on voluntary donations from governments and
other funders to support its work.

Collectively, G20 members account for approximately 90% of the gross world
product (GWP), yet only 13 of them are among the top 20 funders of the
UNFPA. Some G20 countries do not make any core contributions to the UNFPA
at all.

Let them know that investing in reproductive health and rights is one of
the most powerful sustainable development levers!
