Tell Your Members of Congress to Support Increased Federal Arts Funding
Right now, Congress is making decisions that will affect next year’s funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). With enough support from lawmakers, NEA and NEH funding could increase to $204 million next year. This increase gets us a step closer to our ultimate goal of restoring the NEA and NEH to a full funding level of $331 million, or $1 per capita.
Contact your members of Congress today and ask that they sign their names in support of funding the NEA and NEH at $204 million in FY23. U.S. House of Representatives members should join the arts appropriations letter led by Reps. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) and David Price (D-NC) and members in the Senate should join the arts appropriations letter led by Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI).
We must remind Congress the NEA and NEH provide both an economic and cultural benefit by supporting job opportunities for union creative professionals in every state while providing all Americans with access to enriching programs that lift up local economies. In fact, we know those who attend performances spend $31.47 beyond the cost of admission at restaurants, hotels and other local businesses.
The NEA and NEH are also critical to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts. They support the opportunities needed to create wide and diverse talent pipelines that help build more inclusive industries.
As both our industry and economy recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, now is the time for Congress to invest in the arts.
Tell your Representative and Senators today to support $204 million in funding for the NEA and NEH for FY23.
