Tell the White House that we want real climate solutions.
John,
Carbon capture and storage is an unproven, unsound technology that will do nothing to mitigate the climate crisis — it’s a false climate solution. And we don't have time for false climate solutions.
The White House Council on Environmental Quality is currently accepting public comments on how the Biden administration should handle carbon capture projects, and they need to hear from you.

John,
President Biden has stated time and time again that climate change is an urgent threat that must be addressed. But most of the Biden administration’s climate plans rely on carbon capture and storage, or CCS.
Carbon capture and storage is a dangerous distraction that the oil and gas industry claims will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but would really allow for business as usual. It would mean oil and gas companies get to continue drilling while we pay the price with more greenhouse gasses and pushing the climate crisis to the point of no return. We already have the climate solutions we need — moving off fossil fuels and onto renewable energy — so President Biden must reject climate scams like carbon capture. The administration must invest in true renewable energy sources like wind and solar instead of expensive, unproven distractions.
The White House Council on Environmental Quality is currently accepting public comments on how the Biden administration should handle carbon capture projects, and they need to hear from all of us. This is a critical opportunity to tell the White House that we want real climate solutions, not more fossil fuel scams. Please take a minute to tell the White House that carbon capture is not a solution to the climate crisis!
Carbon capture and storage is the process of trapping carbon dioxide from power plants and industrial sites and storing it for future use. But carbon capture projects have consistently failed to capture anything close to the amount of emissions that the industry has promised. Of the few carbon capture projects that exist, most are actually used for “enhanced” oil recovery by pumping CO2 back into the ground to squeeze out more oil from old wells.
Despite a decades-long failing track record, billions of public taxpayer dollars are funneled to the carbon capture and storage industry. Carbon capture and storage is an unproven, unsound technology that will do nothing to mitigate the climate crisis — it’s a false climate solution and a distraction from the real work of reforming our energy and agricultural sectors to combat the current climate emergency.
Expanding carbon capture would also require thousands of miles of new pipelines to transport liquefied carbon dioxide through productive farmlands and vulnerable communities. These pipelines pose a grave threat to public safety, as vapor clouds of carbon dioxide can easily spread for miles and lead to hallucinations, intoxication, asphyxiation, and death.
Hundreds of grassroots environmental organizations, including Indigenous and environmental justice organizations are calling for an end to carbon capture proposals and other false solutions. In order to protect our public safety, health, and the environment, we need real climate action, and we need it now. Demand that the White House not fund carbon capture or other false climate solutions!
