ICYMI: Governor Whitmer filed a historic lawsuit to protect abortion rights in Michigan!
Team — Yesterday, Governor Whitmer took strong action and filed a lawsuit in order to bring a 1931 anti-abortion law that criminalizes abortion to the Michigan Supreme Court.
Governor Whitmer knows that proactive steps needed to be made in order to protect reproductive rights in Michigan.
If Roe v. Wade is overturned, Michigan will revert to a currently dormant 1931 law that criminalizes abortion, makes felons out of reproductive health care providers, and provides no exceptions for rape or incest. Anti-choice advocates have touted the law as the most restrictive in the country.
The Governor's historic action yesterday puts Michigan on the right path. If the suit is successful, reproductive health care won’t be deemed a felony within the state regardless of whether the U.S. Supreme Court guts or fully eliminates protections granted by Roe v. Wade.
Governor Whitmer has been a champion for reproductive rights. Time and time again, Governor Whitmer has called on Michigan's legislature to repeal the 1931 law, but the Republican-controlled legislature won't take action.
It is critical that we come together now to flip Michigan's legislature blue and elect Democrats who will stand behind our Governor and ensure reproductive freedom for all!
Onward!

Team --
Moments ago, Governor Whitmer filed a lawsuit to protect abortion in Michigan.
The Governor's proactive action today urges the Michigan Supreme Court to address a 1931 anti-abortion law and whether Michigan's Constitution protects the right to abortion.
Right now, Roe v. Wade is the law of the land and protects the reproductive rights of Americans. If the U.S. Supreme Court decides to overturn Roe v. Wade, abortion would become illegal in Michigan under this 1931 abortion ban. This archaic ban does not have exceptions for rape or incest and would impact millions of Michiganders.
Governor Whitmer is using every tool at her disposal to ensure reproductive freedom is a right for all people in Michigan. Gretchen Whitmer won’t stop fighting for Michigan and we can’t stop fighting for her.
