History is going to be made in the halls of Congress this week. For the first time since the Nixon administration, Congress is preparing to act on legislation that will increase Social Security benefits.

This week, the House Ways & Means Committee is convening a hearing on the Social Security 2100 Act, which will extend the life of the Social Security Trust Fund into the 22nd century, and increase benefits across the board.

This hearing is a firm rebuke to the decades-long “Leninist Strategy” on the right to debase our Social Security system and replace it with risky Wall Street speculation. And it is the first step toward the House of Representatives PASSING legislation to expand Social Security!

The hearing is this Thursday―we’re working overtime to get majority support for the 2100 Act beforehand, so that it will be guaranteed passage when it hits the House floor in the fall.
