Hey John,
It’s not often I get to send happy emails, but today is one of those times. The Senate just confirmed Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first Black woman to serve on our Supreme Court!
Despite all the nasty and frankly, racist attacks Judge Brown Jackson has faced throughout her confirmation process (I have been vocal that I don’t think she would have received this kind of vitriol if she were a white man…), it is nice to see that at least a few Republicans like Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins chose to be on the right side of history.
It’s also an example of why winning elections matters. Remember the big wins we had in the Georgia Senate races? Because of those victories, we had the votes to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. Every election matters.
Today I’m taking a deep breath to enjoy the good news and reflect on how far we’ve come as a country. It’s a historic day and I refuse to let it get lost in the news cycle! A big congratulations to an incredibly qualified and brilliant judge. And cheers to winning some of the big fights.
