BREAKING: Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will serve on the U.S. Supreme Court

John,

This is a proud day for America as an exceptionally qualified jurist and the first Black woman in our history has been confirmed with bipartisan support to the United States Supreme Court.

Judge Jackson’s confirmation could not have come at a better time -- especially as women’s constitutional rights to reproductive freedom are facing a litany of attacks from right-wing legislatures across the country.

Yesterday, Oklahoma passed what is being called the “cruelest” abortion law in the country. You may recall that Texas and Idaho restricted abortions after the 6th week of pregnancy. Oklahoma legislators took it a step further to ban ALL abortions -- making it a felony with up to 10 years in prison plus a $100,000 fine. At the end of the day, it’s women of color and the working class who are hurt most by these restrictions.

Last year, the House passed the Women’s Health Protection Act that would make protections under Roe v. Wade the law of the land. This would effectively neutralize laws in 19 states trying to restrict or ban abortion access altogether. This bill failed in the Senate, but it’s clear we need to re-up our efforts to codify Roe v. Wade.

Add your name to our petition calling on the Senate to take up legislation like the Women’s Health Protection Act.

The spike in attacks on reproductive freedom is a stark reminder of how important it is that we have Judge Jackson on the bench. SCOTUS is our last line of defense to protect the right of choice established nearly 50 years ago.

I look forward to having Judge Jackson’s unique perspective on the Supreme Court to help deliver justice for all.
