Today, I voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, team.

I had the opportunity to meet with Judge Jackson recently. We talked about how her parents attended segregated schools in Miami before working as public school teachers in Washington, D.C. Her dad even became a lawyer for the Miami school district — something I appreciate having been a superintendent of schools.

Judge Jackson seized on the opportunities her parents gave her. And even though her guidance counselor said she set her “sights too high,” she applied to Harvard University. There, she graduated with honors twice and served on the prestigious Harvard Law Review. America is lucky she set her sights so high.

I can’t remember a time when I had a 30-minute conversation where I came away more impressed than I was by Judge Jackson. She has the intellect to grapple with the nuances of the law and the experience to appreciate how it affects real people. This is a moment to celebrate. My office has been flooded with messages from Coloradans telling me what an extraordinary Justice Judge Jackson will make. My vote today was for them.

It is a moment to celebrate a nation that, as Judge Jackson said, in one generation went from forcing her parents to live under Jim Crow to seeing her ascension to the highest Court in the land. I believe that Judge Jackson will join the ranks of Earl Warren, Thurgood Marshall, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Justices who helped bridge the gap between the words written in our Constitution and their reality in America today.

This day is historic,

Michael

P.S. As a Senator, my job is to reinforce the independence of the judiciary above partisan politics and stand up for integrity and rule of the law. That is why I voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court today. My opponents are going to use this vote to rally their base and flip my seat, but my re-election campaign is powered by you. If you can, pitch in a donation of any amount today to defend my seat so I can continue this fight.
