John, this is a
HISTORIC day!!!
Ketanji Brown Jackson has officially been confirmed to the Supreme Court!
Judge Jackson is the first Black woman AND the first former public
defender to have a seat on the court.
Our founder, Shaun King, said the following a few weeks ago as we pushed
the Senate to confirm Judge Jackson:
“America’s courts have been missing an absolutely ESSENTIAL type of legal
diversity. I am ALL for ethnic and gender diversity. But surface-level
representation does not protect us from harm.”
Today is not only a day to celebrate the first Black woman to be appointed
to the Supreme Court — it is a day to celebrate what it means for our
movement as a former public defender is about to take her seat on the
highest court in the land.
It is a day to celebrate all the work YOU have done,
John. We have helped lead the
charge to elect public defenders to DA seats all over the country.
Judge Jackson’s deep experience as a public defender brings a much-needed
and LONG overdue perspective to the Supreme Court – to fight FOR people
who otherwise would not be able to afford defense.
We are so thrilled for Judge Jackson and for all who made this moment
possible, and we are so excited to celebrate this historic day with all of
you.
The fight for transformative justice continues!!!
- Real Justice
P.S. We have a ton of races coming up where we are trying to elect more
public defenders into DA seats around the country – but our resources are
falling short. If you can afford it, please pitch in to strengthen this
important work.
