John, today we're making history!
The Honorable Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson has been officially confirmed as the FIRST Black female justice in the Supreme Court's 233-year history.
While Judge Jackson's confirmation is historic and long past-due, this moment is about much more than history. As the first Black man elected to New York's 16th district, I deeply understand this moment to be about the story of Black people, our resiliency, and our fight for progress.
Every day is a new day to reaffirm our fight for racial justice. In Congress, I seize every opportunity to continue building the multi-racial democracy we deserve, to lead our communities towards true equality and justice. So when the opportunity came to uplift Judge Jackson's nomination as the first ever Black woman to sit in the highest court in the nation, I was one of the first to call on President Biden in her support.
This is a momentous step in our mission to transform our government to one that represents all of us, not just the privileged few. And from today on, we must continue our dedicated work to paving the way for a future of multi-racial leadership and racial equality.
