Hey John,
We know that our democracy is stronger when everyone is represented and heard. But right now, only 1.9% of all voting members of Congress, 1% of all statewide elected executives, and 1% of state legislators are Asian American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander women.
It's time for that to change.
Here at New American Leaders, we are committed to closing the representation gap and creating a more inclusive democracy. So in partnership with an incredible group of organizations and allies, I'm thrilled to announce that we are launching our first ever AANHPI Women Rising training program!
Hosted in New York City on May 13th-15th, our AANHPI Women Rising program will teach participants how to own their authentic stories and leadership skills, address anti-Asian hate, grow their power, and transform our democracy. Then, through a two-part webinar series, these incredible women will learn how they can use their experiences and stories to run for office, influence policy decisions, and create more intersectional and inclusive communities at every level of our democracy.
Not sure if you want to apply? Have questions about the program? We're here to answer your questions! On Tuesday, April 12th at 6pm ET, we'll host an AANHPI Women Rising info session to answer all of your questions about our new training! Whether you want to recommend someone, have questions about our COVID-19 safety protocols, or just want to learn more before applying, this is a great chance to meet fellow future NALpistas and ask whatever questions you have about how to take the next steps in your leadership journey.
Especially in this moment, in the face of rising anti-Asian hate, it is more important than ever that Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander women are supported and empowered to be heard and included in our democracy. Join us in taking a step towards closing the representation gap and making history with us this AA&PI Heritage Month—apply to be a member of our inaugural AANHPI Women Rising cohort today!
Hope to see you soon,
Ghida Dagher
