John, four moderate Democratic Senate campaigns in 2020 spent $334,997,642 and still managed to lose. And that doesn’t include what the DSCC and Super PACs spent.
Some of these races, in Maine and North Carolina, were ones Democrats should have been able to flip in order to increase the Democratic majority in the Senate. Others, in South Carolina and Kentucky, were massive money dumps to campaigns that were never going to win.
Imagine what we could do to elect a wave of progressives to join AOC, Cori Bush, and Jamaal Bowman in Congress if we had just a fraction of $334 million this election cycle. But our fundraising has actually decreased each month so far this year. That trend cannot continue if we want to win our primaries against the same Democratic establishment that raised hundreds of millions on a handful of moderate, Wall Street-backed, losing Senate campaigns in 2020.
If the Democratic establishment ran more candidates who support Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and student debt cancellation, it could compete in these winnable races against Republicans. Instead, corporate Democrats stick with their fossil fuel, Wall Street, and Big Pharma funders, and use corporate-backed talking points. It’s a losing strategy.
Our mission to transform the Democratic Party into a party that delivers real, progressive, lasting change to the people continues right now as we try to win our primaries and add more fighters to the Justice Democrats bloc on Capitol Hill. Can you help us make this a reality?
We appreciate anything you can give and all the ways you support our movement. We know we can only do this together with you.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
