John,

Today’s bipartisan confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson is a groundbreaking and historic moment as she becomes the first Black woman to serve on the highest court in our nation. Additionally, Justice Jackson is the first justice to have been a public defender.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson belongs on the bench.

Representation on the United States Supreme Court by eminently qualified judges, like Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, not only leads to better decision-making and fairer rulings, it builds confidence in the judiciary and provides role models for all people, as well as an example for judges on other, less representative courts.

As Pennsylvanians weigh in on who will represent them in the U.S. Senate this May and November, voters should consider who represents their values and who will vote their values when it matters most. Our U.S. Senators play a major role in providing advice and consent for lifetime appointments to the federal benches. Educating constituents about the role elected officials play, registering new voters and expanding the electorate is the work we are doing every day. Registering one voter costs $40. Pitch in $40 right now or whatever you can in honor of this historic day.

Feeling joyous and represented,
