Dear neighbor:
It is an honor to represent California’s 33rd District in Congress. I’m pleased to have secured nearly $11 million in federal funding for ten local projects in the government funding package President Biden has signed into law. These resources will help reduce homelessness in our communities, expand mental and other health services, support our veterans, and more. I will always fight for the needs of my constituents in Congress. Here’s a look at where the funding will be going:
As you know, many of these local communities were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Democrats have been working this week to provide additional COVID relief to communities across the country, including by passing the Relief for Restaurants and other Hard Hit Small Businesses Act of 2022. The Senate is also preparing a supplemental funding package to provide much-needed funding for the nationwide pandemic response, which the House will then take up. The package will fulfill immediate needs to secure more vaccines, boosters, testing and therapeutics to keep the pandemic under control.
This week, I also:
- Co-led a letter with Representatives Chrissy Houlahan and Adam Kinzinger to the Department of Defense requesting that the U.S. provide the critical air assets the Ukrainian military has requested.
- Applauded the historic confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the United States Supreme Court.
- Gave a speech on the House floor on Democrats’ record-high job creation.
- Congratulated our Gold Star Family Fellow, Ron Reyes, for being selected to participate in a ceremony at the Vietnam War Memorial in honor of National Vietnam Veterans Day. Ron is the proud son of Ronald Reyes, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968. I’m very grateful to have him on our team.
