I can't get this smile off of my face today, now that Ketanji Brown Jackson has been confirmed to be our country's next Supreme Court Justice.

There are so many reasons why I am excited about this historic nomination, but let me tell you about one reason I'm feeling hopeful today about the future of our country:

Growing up, I looked up at our country's leaders and wondered if any of them looked like me. When I was little, I wanted to serve this country in some way, but didn't feel like I had someone to look up to who looked like I did. After having been the second Korean American elected to Congress, I never knew how humbled I would be to serve as a leader and role model for kids across the country and my own two boys.

Representation matters.

With Judge Jackson now confirmed, a generation of young Black women will see someone who looks like them on the nation's highest court, for the first time in our country's history.

This victory is a long time coming – long overdue – and is tremendously important. I hope it is the first of many like this.

Our Supreme Court and our whole country are better for today's massive victory.

And today is just the beginning.
