Hey folks,
BIG news: I just voted to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Her nomination passed with a bipartisan majority, and she’s now going to become the next Associate Justice.
I take my responsibility to vet and vote on these confirmations very seriously, so I was thoughtful about my decision. Judge Jackson is extremely qualified, brilliant, and impartial. She represents the highest caliber of qualifications and character.
Her journey from attending public schools in Florida to clerking on every level of the federal bench – including for Justice Breyer – is a testament to the diverse and informed perspective she will bring to the court. Her service as a federal public defender, member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, and judge on the federal bench further underscores her tremendous depth of experience. Her wide-ranging endorsements – from conservative jurists, civil rights organizations, law enforcement groups, and through her previous bipartisan Senate confirmations – also speak to her sterling credentials.
I had the opportunity to watch her hearing and to meet with her one-on-one to discuss her nomination. She demonstrated a strong command of constitutional law, a patient and reasoned temperament, and a warm devotion to her family and to the United States. Her confirmation also takes a long overdue step toward making the composition of the Supreme Court better reflect the people it represents by finally including a Black woman.
Today marks a historic day for America and a brilliant addition to the Supreme Court. If you’re interested in sharing some of our social posts on this nomination, you can share our graphics on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook. You can also share our video on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook.
