I have some joyful news to share, folks.

The Senate just confirmed Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to an appointment on the Supreme Court. It’s a momentous achievement for our country and an occasion for celebration.

Justice Jackson is the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court in our nation’s history. Both her life experience and unparalleled professional credentials add tremendous value to the legal opinions issued from the bench.

I am so honored and humbled to have been a part of her historic confirmation process.

However, I want to be clear: Justice Jackson’s confirmation — even with her long list of credentials — was only possible thanks to your efforts to flip the Senate majority.

I don’t need to remind you what happened when President Obama nominated Merrick Garland to fill Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat in 2016 when Republicans controlled the Senate. Or how Mitch McConnell crammed through three divisive Trump justices, with Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation mere days from a national election in which millions of votes had already been cast.

We must defend our Senate majority in order to ensure the next two years of President Biden’s term sees us appointing more fair-minded judges to the federal bench.

Voting rights, abortion rights, environmental protections, and the right to collectively bargain and form a union are just a few of the issues that are put before the federal judiciary every day. We need judges who will follow the rule of law set forth by the Constitution and legal precedent to protect our rights within the legal system.
