extremely close. Beto O’Rourke is closing the gap in the polls with
right-wing Republican Governor Greg Abbott.

O’Rourke—D: 40%

Margin of error: +/- 3.2%

“Pretty much tied,” an ABC News affiliate in Texas reported over the
weekend, and “well within the margin of error.”

This is no joke. The Texas governor’s race is up for grabs — and if you
know Beto like I do, you know he’ll cover every square inch of Texas
talking to every voter between now and November. But he needs the
resources to do it.

During his Senate run in 2018, Beto turned out more Democratic voters in
Texas than anyone in history. Let me repeat that: more than anyone in
history.

That’s no empty statistic — in 2018, Stacey Abrams’ campaign did the same
thing in Georgia, just before Democrats flipped that state blue in 2020.

That same tectonic shift is possible in Texas, and it’s never been more
urgent that we see it through this fall.

Beto’s opponent, Greg Abbott, is just... terrible. He’s directed the
state’s child protection agency to investigate the parents of transgender
children for child abuse. And that’s not all.

Voting rights, abortion rights, COVID protections — Abbott has thrown them
all out the window in a vain effort to bolster his right-wing bonafides
and juice his fundraising.

If Beto can win this race, it will send shockwaves throughout the nation.
And Texas’ 38 electoral votes are no joke come November 2024.

This isn’t an empty hope, John. The numbers show that this is
possible. But for Beto to have a good shot at this, he needs an army of
