Hello comrades,
You may have heard in the news lately that residents of the Clarkson Lodge in the Capitol Hill neighborhood are facing mass eviction. The new landlord is forcing them all out to renovate and drive up the rent. Many of these neighbors are longtime residents who now have had their lives uprooted by corporate greed. Fortunately, due to legal aid from the Colorado Poverty Law Project, they now have until the end of April to find somewhere to go. Unfortunately, with little affordable housing left in Denver, they’re still going to need some help to do it.
Can you please pitch in $10 to help Clarkson Lodge tenants figure out their next steps?
We have been speaking with these tenants and we must be clear: a number of our neighbors are facing potential homelessness. Their two greatest needs are:
-
A permanent place to live. Many tenants have fixed incomes or are otherwise unable to afford the skyrocketing rents in this city. The Department Of Housing Stability has offered some helpful resources but with essentially no affordable housing stock available, their long-term prospects are up in the air. If you have any leads on potential housing options, please get in touch ASAP!
-
Money to help in the short term. Even if you can’t help them find permanent housing, we are asking our community for some mutual aid in helping our neighbors find a way to store their belongings and find a safe place to stay in the short term. While this won’t fix the underlying problem of our city’s rental market, for these people it can mean the difference between temporary difficulties and falling into homelessness.
Any money donated to this fundraiser will be divided evenly among the residents of Clarkson Lodge that have asked for help.
Can you please pitch in $10? And please share with your friends too so that we can maximize our impact.
Today it’s them, tomorrow it may be any of us.
In solidarity with all tenants facing eviction,
