Pennsylvania’s primary election is just 40 days away , and the stakes for the Governor’s race couldn’t be higher. With countless attempts made by far-right legislators to block environmental progress and restrict voting rights, we’ve seen how the Governor's veto pen can often be our last line of defense.

We need a strong environmental leader who is ready to stand up to politically powerful lobbyists and fight for a clean energy future for Pennsylvania. That’s why I’m proud to tell you today that Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania is endorsing Josh Shapiro for Governor!

Josh Shapiro is the only gubernatorial candidate with a strong track record of holding polluters accountable and protecting the clean air, drinking water, and open space that Pennsylvania families deserve. And he has a vision to rebuild Pennsylvania’s economy and create good-paying union jobs for working families by investing in clean energy, protecting our children from lead, and addressing decades of deferred maintenance in our parks. As Attorney General, Josh Shapiro has made environmental enforcement a major tenet of his office and has been an ally to environmental justice communities. He also holds an outstanding track record for cracking down on oil and gas companies and holding powerful corporate special interests accountable.

Here are some other reasons why we think Josh Shapiro is the clearest pro-environment choice for Governor:

• He led the fight against former President Donald Trump’s efforts to weaken federal oversight and successfully forced the federal government to follow the law and protect Pennsylvanians by controlling emissions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas.

• He pledges to build a 21st century clean energy economy by expanding wind and solar power. He also wants to invest in public transit to reduce climate pollution and address air quality issues.

• He has a plan to address dangerous PFAS contaminants and tackle the lead crisis by stepping up testing and investing in replacing aging lead pipes, especially in urban schools as well as low-income communities and communities of color.
