U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg famously called on all of us to “fight for the things you care about, but do it in a way that others will join you.” In Colorado, that’s what we have done to protect reproductive rights.
I proudly supported the Reproductive Health Equity Act because access to legal and safe abortions is essential to equal rights under the law. As Justice Ginsburg stated at her confirmation hearing, if a woman is denied access to an abortion and is forced to bear a child against her will, she is not equal to a man who is not in that position. History teaches us another compelling reason for protecting Roe v. Wade : overturning Roe will not end abortions; it will only end legal and safe abortions.
In Colorado, we are committed to protecting access to reproductive health care even if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe . And if other states attempt to prevent people from traveling to Colorado to access reproductive health care, we will defend our medical providers and the constitutional right to travel.
Our civil rights are in the balance and they depend on engaged citizens fighting for them. In Colorado, I will continue protecting the rights of all Coloradans—including reproductive rights—as a top priority. If you can make a contribution to support this important work, I would be grateful.
