News from Representative Allred

April 6, 2022

Dear Friend,

Yesterday I had the honor of joining President Biden and former President Obama at the White House as President Biden signed an Executive Order to strengthen the Affordable Care Act (ACA), expand health care coverage and bring down costs. President Biden’s proposal would fix the ACA’s “family glitch” and expand affordable coverage to nearly 1 million more Americans and save families hundreds of dollars a month. The administration’s proposed rule would also help 200,000 uninsured Americans gain coverage.

The family glitch prevented dependents of workers who have access to employer-sponsored affordable coverage for themselves, but not for their entire family, from being able to receive marketplace coverage. Fixing the family glitch will change the definition of affordable care to include coverage for workers' families, and ensure that those who don't have access to affordable coverage can get coverage on the ACA marketplace.

The ACA and its invaluable protections have been a lifeline for so many North Texans, including my mom, who have pre-existing conditions, or who were paying exorbitant prices for health coverage. The high price of health care is always one of the issues I hear about most from North Texans. I was honored to join President Biden as he signed this Executive Order to lower costs and expand coverage. And thanks to the American Rescue Plan, which I helped pass, ACA monthly premiums are currently at an all-time low and enrollment is at an all-time high.

As I’ve done since my first day in Congress, I’ll continue to defend the ACA and keep working to lower costs for health care and prescription drugs. It’s an honor to serve North Texas, where I was born and raised.

Sincerely,
