The Biden Administration is extending the pause on federal student loan payments until at least August 31st, 2022.
This extension is good news for millions of borrowers. But we can’t stop here. Now is the moment to cancel student loan debt once and for all.
Ayanna has been leading the call to cancel at least $50,000 in student loan debt for every borrower, and we’re continuing to put pressure on the Biden Administration to permanently extend this much-needed relief to the millions of Americans saddled with this crushing burden.
Student debt cancellation is racial justice. It’s economic justice. And it’s long overdue.
The communities hit hardest by the pandemic are the same communities holding a disproportionate amount of student loan debt — Black, brown, and Indigenous communities, women, and people in low-income communities.
With the stroke of a pen, President Biden can cancel student debt — like he promised on the campaign trail — and take a major step toward leveling the playing field for millions of people.
