This week, the IPCC came out with a damning report on our efforts to curb the climate crisis: Greenhouse gas emissions must peak by 2025 to avoid being set on an irreversible path to climate breakdown.

Climate scientists have been saying this for decades – and here in New Mexico, we are experiencing the impacts. Climate change is making our land hotter and air drier. Precipitation patterns are changing, causing more droughts and less predictable winters. That means a lot to the farmers and agriculture industry that sustain our state.

That’s why my colleagues and I are working to pass bold legislation like the Green New Deal to transition the United States to a clean energy future, creating new, high paying jobs, and promoting a platform of environmental justice. However, climate-denying Republicans continue to stall our work by using the filibuster to obstruct progress.

This may be our last chance to limit the climate crisis. But don’t get me wrong, I haven’t lost hope. But in order to fix these issues, we must expand our Senate majority this year and get rid of the filibuster. But we’re up against a dark money machine, bankrolled in part by Big Oil who can throw millions toward climate-denying Republicans.

Your support is needed now more than ever to protect and expand our pro-environment Senate majority. If you can, pitch in right now so we can act on climate before it’s too late.

Our land is the gift we leave to the next generation, and we must never forget that.

It’s up to us to do everything in our power to tackle the climate crisis and protect our environment, so thank you for supporting me on this important issue.

Con gratitud,
