Welcome to National Youth HIV & AIDS Week of Action! This week, we're coordinating a series of events & activities in the lead-up to National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day (#NYHAAD) on Sunday.
-
Today at 4pm EST, join us on Youtube Live here for a roundtable between our youth activists and policymakers, including Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Adm. Rachel Levine, the highest-ranking transgender federal official in history! They'll be discussing how we can center young people in HIV & AIDS policy. Remember young people are some of the most impacted by HIV (making up about 1 in 5 new HIV cases). We're thrilled to be connecting our rockstar youth activists with high-ranking Biden Administration officials today. Tune in LIVE here.
Check out what else we're doing below, and be sure to follow our Instagram here for updates.
NYHAAD Week of Action Schedule!
THURSDAY - Day of Action: REPEAL HIV Discrimination Act
Join us for a day of action urging Congress to pass the Repeal HIV Discrimination Act. You can send a letter to your members of Congress here, and share the action online. The REPEAL HIV Discrimination Act, sponsored every year by Representative Barbara Lee, would allow federal and state officials to work alongside community stakeholders to end the unjust and outdated practice of HIV criminalization in the United States. Download and post these graphics to your social media pages tomorrow to call on your followers to take action. Remember to use #NYHAAD and #StopHIVTogether in your posts!
THURSDAY at 11:30am EST - IG Live with CDC's #StopHIVTogether Campaign
Tune in here to watch live as CDC's Division of HIV Prevention interviews our very own Char'Lee Marie King and La Unidad Latina's Kyle Rodriguez about National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day.
FRIDAY at 9pm EST - Film Screening & Youth Panel w/ BLACK, GAY, stuck at home.
Join us for a film screening and youth panel in partnership with BLACK, GAY, stuck (bgsah). bgsah is a project created by Michael Ward (he/him, @michaelxward) and Joshua Henry Jenkins (he/him, @joshjenks). As the world was asked to stay at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, they recognized that a need for affinity and community remains. Register here for the youth panel and film screening of Check It.
SUNDAY - Join us online using #NYHAAD and #StopHIVTogether
Sunday, April 10th is National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day! Join us and thousands of accounts across the country in posting online using #NYHAAD. We encourage you to (1) use the NYHAAD toolkit here for inspiration; (2) encourage folks to sign up for our Medical Mentorship Toolkit by sharing this link on social media. This year's toolkit includes resources from Let's Stop HIV Together, a nationwide campaign that takes aim at the stigma and complacency fueling the HIV epidemic in the United States. Remember to use #NYHAAD and #StopHIVTogether in your posts, no matter what social media network you choose.
In addition, our partners at The Bros in Convo Initiative will conduct a sexual health fishbowl on sexuality, health, and wellness. The event will incorporate young people living with and impacted by HIV. The Bros in Convo Initiative is a Black Queer-led grassroots organization building community, educating, and empowering gay and queer individuals of color living in Central Florida. If you're based in Central Florida and identify with the organization's membership base, learn more here.
