Affordable Housing Bills Move Forward!

Good news! The Assembly Housing Committee voted unanimously 7-0 to pass AB 2244 (Wicks)! This bill would reduce residential parking requirements for newly built religious institutions to allow for the construction of housing, removing barriers for faith institutions that want to use their land to build affordable housing.

Thank you Assemblymember Buffy Wicks for your leadership, and the faith community for their continued support. AB 2244 now heads to the Assembly floor for a vote.

Continue to show your support for affordable housing solutions by submitting a simple support letter to the California Legislature. Use our quick and easy letter templates, which include instructions for submission:

  • Download AB 2244 sample letter. (bill details above)

  • Download AB 1911 sample letter. AB 1911 would create a new Affordable Housing Preservation Tax Credit (AHPTC) to support the preservation of tens of thousands of units of affordable housing that are at risk of converting to market rate or displacing low-income tenants.

Messaging Training: How to Talk About Housing Elements

Housing Elements can be a complicated, intimidating process but with the right messaging, we can help break down barriers and motivate residents and advocates to get involved and shape better policy.

Join us with M+R Communications for a presentation that will lay out an approach for what to say and how to say it to bring people in, communicate the essentials, and get them engaged in the process.

There are two chances to join us for this training:
