Hi John,
It's AGM season for big pharma this month, and unlike most of us they’ll be counting their winnings from the pandemic. Yesterday it was revealed that the CEOs of just three big pharma companies have made a combined $100 million in pandemic pay, even as 8 in 10 people in low-income countries still haven't received a vaccine.

These companies are still refusing to share the publicly-funded vaccine technology that could help countries around the world take control of their pandemic response. As the virus continues to spread like wildfire around the world, causing ever more preventable deaths, we need to keep up the pressure on this industry that refuses to change.

That’s why as part of the People’s Vaccine Alliance we’re collecting voice messages for Pfizer and Moderna, calling them out on their pandemic profiteering and demanding change. We’re asking you to sum up this industry in one word. What word will you choose?

The task is simple: record a short, personal voice message to Pfizer and Moderna, letting them know why we need a People’s Vaccine, now. Your message, with hundreds of others, will be delivered straight to Moderna and Pfizer in the run-up to their AGMs (potentially quite loudly).

You can either follow a script provided by the campaign, or make up your own message. You just need access to Whatsapp to take part. The deadline for this action is 21 April, but recording your voice message should take just a few minutes.

Covid inquiry update

Remember last month when over 9,000 of you co-signed our open letter to Baroness Hallett, the chair of the Covid-19 public inquiry, to urge her team to include global vaccine access in the scope of the investigation?

Disappointingly, while the draft terms of reference the government published recently do mention vaccines and treatments, they don’t explicitly make global access part of the inquiry – despite the crucial impact this has had on the spread of coronavirus variants in the UK and around the world.

The good news is we can still do something about it! The government is holding a short public consultation on the terms of reference, and anyone is welcome to submit their views. We have submitted our letter and the 9,000 signatures to the consultation already, but if you would like to submit an individual response, you can do so via the inquiry’s website. But hurry - the deadline is midnight tomorrow, Thursday 7 April.

Respond to the consultation ([link removed])
Thanks for all your support,

** Help ensure Covid-19 vaccines are available to everyone, everywhere
------------------------------------------------------------

It’s vitally important that Covid-19 vaccine patents are suspended during the pandemic, and for big pharma to share their know-how globally, as the best way of ensuring there are enough vaccines for everyone everywhere.

Regular gifts give us the long-term stability to plan effective campaigns and the flexibility to respond to crises like these.
