Friends -

If I could go back in time and tell teenage Ruben that he would not only grow up to become a Congressman, but that thousands and thousands of people would help him get there by making small-donations and volunteering their time to make it happen. He’d never believe it.

Never.

That version of me – that grew up struggling, working class, fought in a war, made it through college – knew there was more but couldn’t have imagined where I am today.

It’s amazing.

So when we get through with these FEC fundraising deadlines, I like to take it all in. Not what I have accomplished — but WE have accomplished.

Because someone like me doesn’t get to Congress alone. Truth is, like so many great success stories, every one of them will tell you that they had help.

I’ve had a lot of help along the way.

My mom.

My boss Steve at the hot dog place I worked at in high school.

My sisters and brothers in the Marine Corps.

And you.

So thank you.

Thank you for just standing with me when I’ve needed it most.
It means a lot.
