Dear John,
The latest federal budget will be presented tomorrow, and every indicator – including their new deal with the NDP – points to it containing large new spending promises.
As we all know, higher spending needs to be paid for with higher taxes. Even high-spending governments acknowledge this, usually promising to raise taxes only on corporations or high-income earners.
But a new Fraser Institute study out today blows those talking points out of the water.
It finds that the federal government simply can’t raise enough tax revenue solely from Canada’s upper-income families.
The study highlights various potential tax policies – personal income tax increases; business tax increases; and wealth taxes – all of which fail to generate the revenue some proponents claim.
Check out the full study here, and be sure to share this far and wide before tomorrow's budget announcement!
Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
President
