Gabrielle Union Brings It
[[link removed]]
We’ve got a very exciting face on the site today for my fellow millennials: the
iconic Gabrielle Union.
Union chatted with Jessica Curry Morton, author of the NAACP Image
Award-nominated children’s book Parker Looks Up
[[link removed]]:
An Extraordinary Moment, exclusively for Scary Mommy. Their convo ranged from
the creation of Union’s new babycare line, Proudly, to the joys of making a
candy run at 7-Eleven with her husband, retired NBA star Dwyane Wade.
The star got real about how much better she understands her own mom now that
she’s got kids — “I get it now. And I don’t know how she did not fight me in the
street” — and the battles she and her family are fighting on behalf of their
daughter, Zaya, who is trans: “In our family, we just don’t have the luxury of
burying our head in sand or not knowing that it’s not just Texas or Florida and
‘Don’t Say Gay,’ states are passing these laws with a reckless abandon,
sometimes in the dead of night.”
She also opened up about all that she’s juggling: “I drop balls all day every
day, and I just have to hope people give me grace in the same way I give them
grace.” Something for all of us to remember in our dealings with each other.

Things Are Getting Better. Why Is My Anxiety Getting Worse?
[[link removed]]
As we head into summer and Covid restrictions loosen once again, Samm Burnham
Davidson does a check-in with herself and finds that her anxiety is getting
worse, not better. She tries to work out why: “As someone whose mind has always
operated primarily in ‘worst case scenarios,’ being pummeled with fear-fueling
information for two years — a period that encompassed the pregnancy and birth of
my fourth child — has wreaked havoc on my brain,” she writes. “I now feel as if
I am in a permanently heightened state of worry about things both big and
small.” Sound familiar?
