We are excited to announce that we’ll have two special guest speakers at tonight’s Seattle DSA General Membership Meeting! Our guests will be speaking on “DSA Debate over Palestine, Jamaal Bowman & BDS Working Group” and will be followed by open discussion.

Ashik Siddique, a member of DSA National Political Committee, will be speaking in support of the NPC majority
Tessa Echeverria, a members of Madison, WI DSA & Tempest Collective, will be speaking in opposition to the NPC majority

This is a rare opportunity for us to hear directly from participants in a national debate. This will help us grapple with the serious questions that have animated this debate: democracy in DSA, how to keep elected officials accountable, DSA’s relationship to the Democratic Party, and more. For those who may not have followed the debate closely, we’ll have a speaker at the beginning who will give an overview of the debate.

Passions have run high on this debate, rightfully so. However, unfortunately, this debate has largely played out on Twitter or other such places, in an unorganized and unaccountable way, which has contributed to a toxic atmosphere that has made it difficult to have a sober, productive discussion.

For our discussion tonight, it would be ideal for us all to approach the discussion with generosity to our comrades and an understanding that we are all starting from the same place and support the same ends: fervent opposition to the brutal, soul withering apartheid and unbreakable support for Palestinian liberation.
