This historic victory sets an example for Amazon facilities across the country, inspiring workers to unionize and negotiate for safer working conditions, better benefits, and higher wages for all. I’m looking forward to another workers’ win when Staten Island warehouse LDJ5 votes to unionize later this month.
As the Chair of the Committee on Labor, I am proud to represent many union workers within my district and make sure any legislation I put forward has working people’s needs at the forefront. Building strong worker power creates paths to the middle class and helps to build a strong local economy across our state. We all do better when we all do better.
There is still so much work to be done to protect workers and I am proud to be fighting for these issues alongside so many incredible organizers. This includes everything from ensuring workers are paid fairly, that they have access to resources and benefits for themselves and their families, and that obstacles that prevent workers from succeeding such as inadequate childcare are eliminated through social programs.
Congratulations to the Amazon Labor Union! Let’s get y’all a contract!
In Solidarity,
Jessica Ramos
