Our current health care system is plagued with holes in mental health coverage.
Even though insurers are legally required to cover behavioral health the same way as physical health, they don't.1
Too often, mental health care is a luxury for the rich. But Medicare for All would change that by guaranteeing comprehensive mental health care to everyone with no copays, premiums, deductibles, or other cost-sharing. It would transform people’s ability to receive quality mental health care.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness month in May, we’re collecting stories from our movement as part of an upcoming project.
Sharing our personal stories is key to making the case for Medicare for All and demonstrating to our elected officials and the country as a whole what would be different if we had the courage to do what’s right and guarantee health care to all as a human right.
With your permission – and if you share your story with us – we may reach out to you to talk further about sharing your experience to illustrate the importance of mental health care that would be guaranteed under Medicare for All.
Note: we are not mental health professionals and encourage you to seek help if needed. You can find a list of resources here.
Please submit your mental health story to us here, and we’ll be in touch about next steps.
Thank you for sharing, and we look forward to reading your responses.
