Friends,

Next week we will come together among family and friends to reflect on
what we are grateful for in our lives. I continue to be grateful that I
get to see potential unlocked among the leaders I meet with every week.

Recently, I was speaking at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Corporate
Citizenship Conference on why it is so critical that we support the
philanthropic community. The people in the non-profit world are doing
good and important work. That's why, on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving
I'll be joining GivingTuesday, a growing movement of doing good, by
donating to Unlocking Potential. Will you do some good with me?

GivingTuesday is about leveraging the power of empathy and collaboration
to unlock potential and create opportunity for others." From now until
December 3 I'll be matching all donations 10 to 1. If you donate even $1
to the efforts to build up our non-profit leaders, I'll also invest $10
of my own.

Everyone, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to realize their
full potential.

Thank you for sharing some of your capacity so that others can build
theirs further.

Carly Fiorina speaks at Catholic University of America Business Class

Fiorina was addressing a room which contained mostly members of a class
exclusive to the Catholic University of America (The Busch School of
Business), The Vocation of Business. Although it is a management class,
The Vocation of Business focuses on establishing a standard of ethics
and values in students' lives. It is meant to promote honesty,
dignity, and guides students to find their callings.  

"Professor Fiorina has come to talk with my class for the past three
semesters and every time she is one of the most liked guest speakers,"
says Widmer. "Students tell me that her story of going from not knowing
what to do with life at 18, to being a secretary at a real estate office
to becoming the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, to running for president
of the United States is very inspiring."

"I know that in the non-profit world so many problems fester. And I know
people in the non-profit world are doing good and important work.
Sometimes the investments in human capital, and capacity building, and
problem-solving, that we take for granted in the corporate world,
aren't happening. And it's because donors say to a non-profit, "well I
don't want my money to go to administration and overhead I want it to
go to meals, or kids, or books." I understand that sentiment; however,
if you're not investing in the people who are delivering the services,
you don't deliver the services as well.

Unlocking Potential was stood up to help those problem-solvers have a
greater impact."

**Kay Coles James:** Well, thank you and I must admit that in almost
every instance in my life, it was not planned, it was not strategic on
my part. When I go back to the very, very beginning, I think it happened
when I was tasked, along with a few other young African Americans, to
integrate the schools in the South. I think about what was required of
me in that moment. You had to be courageous. You had to be fearless. You
had to be tenacious. I think very early on, those characteristics were
sort of ingrained in me and have served me well over all these many
years.

**Carly Fiorina:**It's such a wonderful reflection you just gave us. I
mean, imagine for those listening, imagine you're a young person and
you're asked, "Okay, let's integrate the schools in the South." It's a
pretty tall order. I believe that leaders are made, not born, and that
all leaders share certain common characteristics. Courage being the
first and most important, because without courage, none of us can tackle
the status quo. Unless we tackle the status quo, things don't get
better, do they?
