Dear Family and Friends, I am writing to update you on our early success and momentum in our campaign for Congress and to share our winning path to a November victory over Lauren Boebert. How We Win the Primary - Leading Fundraiser - As you may have read this morning, we have over $1.6 million on hand in just 50 days. I am putting my money where my principles are: I made a $1.5 million loan to our campaign together with over $230,000 from nearly 900 contributors. Loan aside, we expect to have raised the most money of any Democratic candidate for this quarter and have the biggest war chest to win the primary.
- Experienced Elected Official - I’ve done the work. I’ve demonstrated during my eight years on Aspen City Council that I can work thoughtfully with others and build partnerships, and I’m the only candidate with actual experience in areas like affordable housing, transportation, water rights, and other critical rural issues. As a moderate, I am the only candidate that can build the needed coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and unaffiliated voters. I’ve learned through 18 years of marriage and raising kids what it means to compromise and to get along with others in order to accomplish great things together, and I intend to put my experience to work for our district.
- Successful Businessman - I know how to get stuff done. With a respectful demeanor, and thoughtful common sense, I have built consensus working across cultures and communities throughout my career, both on the Western Slope as well as across the globe. I am going to work with everyone for our district, not to disparage people.
- Travel the District - I am out there meeting people. Whether it’s the local Elks Lodges or the county fair, you will see me and hear from me, and I intend to make myself known to all the voters of our district, and share with them why I am the candidate with the best probability to defeat Boebert.
How We Defeat Boebert in the General Election (this will be a referendum on her) - She is Weak - Boebert only won 51% of the vote in 2020. Only weak incumbents are challenged in a primary, and she has two primary opponents, including a popular State Senator. Boebert will garner only 60-65% of the Republican primary. Once she is further weakened, but survives the primary, many Republicans will seek another option. We need less than 10% of her prior voters to be added to Democrat and unaffiliated voters to defeat Boebert in November. Folks are simply tired of all of the hate, radical votes, and her association with fringe groups.
- Our District Has A Strong Center - Only a well-funded moderate Democrat can build serious inroads into the largest voting block – unaffiliated voters – who make up 43% of the district. Garnering their support, along with moderate Republicans, is the path to our victory.
