Despite no recent hurricanes, we are all getting hit with notices doubling and even tripling our property insurance rates. Many carriers are only renewing property insurance for homes with roofs less than 10-years-old, and many more are leaving the state and going out of business. It's not sustainable.

I went so far as to drive home from Tallahassee to meet with local insurance agents, lawyers, and realtors in 2021 to discuss the intricacies of the reforms to see what impact they would have in Brandon specifically. I remember, we met at the Beef 'O' Brady's on Bell Shoals and my friend Kevin brought stacks of non-renewal notices, rate increases, and desperate letters from local homeowners. It was a powerful statement.

This week, the Republican House Speaker announced that he is blocking property insurance reforms during the upcoming special legislative session later this month (story). The same day, he endorsed my opponent who is already cashing in on special interest fundraising from the very people profiting off of these sky-high rates.

I've been a leader in calling for further reforms this entire session, I have led on this issue since first getting elected in the midst of the crisis, and I will continue to fight for it going forward.

I need your help in fighting back! Please sign my petition calling on the Governor to add property insurance reforms to the Special Legislative Session agenda, and chip in a few bucks to help us make sure another good-ol-boy insider doesn't take our seat just to pad the pockets of those profiting from further inaction.
