John,
First, Rep. Donald Payne Jr. called Imani unqualified. Now, he’s doing what all men do when they feel threatened by a supremely qualified, outspoken woman: he’s trying to paint her as “too ambitious.”
You know as well as we do that being ambitious is only a flaw when a woman does it, particularly a Black woman like Imani.
And you can bet that no one has EVER called Payne Jr. “too ambitious” — for good reason, too.
Payne Jr. hasn’t shown a single ounce of ambition during his 10 years in Congress. He’s barely lifted a finger to help our community through the challenges of the last decade. All he’s done is take corporate PAC money, do what special interests tell him to do, and ignore his constituents.
And you know what? Given the choice, we’d rather have a Congresswoman who’s ambitious — ambitious about securing housing as a human right, ambitious about securing universal healthcare, and ambitious about protecting our democracy — than a do-nothing Congressman who isn’t ambitious enough to put on pants for work, much less fight for our community.
If you agree that it’s time to elect a proud, ambitious, and outspoken progressive to fight for our community in Congress, click here to chip in $27 and help elect Imani Oakley.
