Dear John,
[[link removed]]
We're ready to put the first Black woman and first public defender on the U.S. Supreme Court. This week we must show up for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to assure that we will have a remarkable jurist who respects all of our rights on the highest court for generations to come.
Here's what to expect this week, and how to get involved:
Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a "markup" hearing to vote on Judge Jackson's nomination. The committee deadlocked in an 11-11 vote, leaving Democrats to use a procedural vote to advance her nomination.
Once the nomination is discharged out of the Judiciary Committee, the full Senate has to vote twice: once to end debate on the nomination ("cloture"), and then again to confirm the nominee to the Supreme Court. We expect that final full Senate vote to happen later this week.
This is the week to take action to put Judge Jackson on the Supreme Court.
We're working with a breadth of communities and partners representing some of the issues most at stake to organize a series of days of action this week.
