Dear John,
This Ramadan, as we remember Muslims from around the globe, we hope you take a moment to help the Rohingya Muslims facing genocide by taking action for the Burma Act.
We are excited to report that THIS WEEK the House plans to hold a vote for the BURMA Act of 2021 [[link removed](10%2F05%2F2021)&text=To%20authorize%20humanitarian%20assistance%20and,Burma%2C%20and%20for%20other%20purposes.] . However, we still need YOUR help to ensure the swift passage of this crucial legislation.
Tell your elected official vote in favor of the BURMA Act [[link removed]]
Background:
Since hostilities escalated in 2017, the Emgage Action policy team has tirelessly advocated for the Rohingya Muslims on the Hill and in-district through our chapters (VA, PA, NY, TX, MI, and FL). Most prominently, we have been advocating for the passage of the bipartisan BURMA Act of 2021 [[link removed]] , which was introduced last year by Representative Gregory Meeks (D-NY-5) and Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD). On top of requiring the Secretary of State to make a genocide determination for the Rohingya, which we have now achieved, this act will:
*
Authorize
to
impose
sanctions
on
individuals
and
entities
who
helped

Take Action TODAY for the Rohingya Muslims [[link removed]]
Last month, Secretary of State Antony Blinken delivered remarks at the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C., declaring the Burmese military's mass killings of the Rohingya a "genocide." The following are his remarks:
“ The attack against Rohingya was widespread and systematic, which was crucial for reaching a determination of crimes against humanity, ” said Secretary Blinken. “ The evidence also points to a clear intent behind these mass atrocities, the intent to destroy Rohingya in whole or in part. The time is NOW, tell Congress to pass the BURMA Act [[link removed]]
Tell Congress TODAY to pass the BURMA Act of 2021, so that those perpetrating this genocide can be held accountable and that we can effectively work towards achieving freedom for Rohingya Muslims.
Sincerely,
Wa'el Alzayat
