We received a lot of good responses to “You Can’t Earn a Wife or Husband, So Stop Trying.” Unfortunately, it seems like many singles fall into the trap of thinking that they need to do something to earn a spouse. While it’s good to desire and prepare for marriage, it falls awfully close to prosperity gospel thinking when we begin to say, “If I do [action], God will bless me with [thing].” Life is about participating in God’s plan for us and becoming more like Him, not about behavioral transactions. I encourage you to simply live faithfully and focus on becoming like Christ. Maybe a wife or husband is in God’s plan, but maybe not. Either way, be encouraged that you don’t have to earn a spouse (if that were the case, no one would ever be married). Send us a message on FB or Insta if you’ve found a helpful way to avoid this kind of thinking!
