Celebrating women in politics
Our movement to elect servant leaders is growing and we’re seeing tangible evidence of change in our communities. Here are just some of the recent highlights.
Mayor Caroline Simmons marked her first 100 days as the first woman to hold the Office of Mayor in Stamford, Connecticut. Councilwoman Elizabeth Beck was asked to introduce President Biden at the Fort Worth VA, where she spoke about the need for improving access to care and benefits for veterans suffering from toxic exposure to burn pits. Former Massachusetts State Representative Juana Matias was appointed by President Biden to serve as the HUD Regional Administrator for New England. Maine’s Secretary of State Shenna Bellows is the first woman to be elected to this office in Maine. She was elected in 2020 and is currently serving her first term.

Lindsey Burke has been serving marginalized communities in a variety of capacities for over 20 years and continues to give a voice to the voiceless. She has participated in nonpartisan issue organizing with Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, and has worked at Lexington Rescue Mission, providing a range of social services to people experiencing homelessness and those who are marginally housed. Lindsey has twice served in AmeriCorps.
