Shervin Aazami is running to be the first progressive Iranian-American to serve in the House of Representatives. This is more than a political campaign – this is a people-powered, progressive movement. With your help, we can take this movement to Washington to
bring real change to CA-32.
Brad Sherman does not support a Green New Deal. I do. John, before I go on, will you chip in now and join my fight to bring transformational climate reform to this district?

Here’s the thing, John. Brad Sherman, the 26-year corporate Democrat I’m running to unseat, does not actually support a Green New Deal (GND), no matter what he says. While Sherman co-sponsored the GND resolution back in 2019, there have been multiple pieces of legislation introduced since then to implement the vision outlined in H. Res. 109 – and Brad Sherman’s support is nowhere to be found.
For example:
H.R. 4442 - Green New Deal for Public Schools – invests $1.43 trillion over ten years into removing lead, mold, and other toxins from our public schools while greatly expanding the number of teachers, counselors, and support staff to close education gaps based on race and class. Brad Sherman is not a co-sponsor.
H.R. 2664 – Green New Deal for Public Housing – invests up to $180 billion for green energy retrofitting, upgrades, and expansion of public housing for millions of Americans. Brad Sherman is not a co-sponsor.
H.R. 5253 – Fossil Free Finance Act – mandates Wall Street banks divest their fossil fuel holdings so that we stop financing the climate crisis. Brad Sherman is not a co-sponsor.
H.R. 2644 – Green New Deal for Cities, States, and Tribes – outlines $1 trillion for municipal climate adaptation and mitigation projects, and to clean up polluted sites, expand conservation programs, build green space, and strengthen water infrastructure. Brad Sherman is not a co-sponsor.
H.R. 2038 – BUILD GREEN Infrastructure and Jobs Act – invests $500 billion to construct, expand, and electrify public transit systems across the country. Brad Sherman is not a co-sponsor.
See the picture, John? Unfortunately, it gets worse. Sherman was recently on Fox News (where he spends a great deal of his time) where he boasted about how the United States leads the world in oil production, shockingly stated that he is open to revisiting the Keystone XL Pipeline ban, and quixotically made the point that greenhouse gas emissions are only an issue on the consumption side, not the production side.
His comments defy logic and the extensive research compiled by thousands of climate scientists across the globe – all of whom have made crystal clear that we need to KEEP IT IN THE GROUND to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
Not to mention Brad tweeted that the Saudis have “blood on their hands” if they don’t increase oil production in response to the war in Ukraine. If Brad truly supported a Green New Deal, he would recognize that the only way to end our energy reliance on despots and authoritarians the world over is for us to establish a 100% renewable energy economy right here at home - powered by millions of union-backed living wage jobs. The solutions are in front of us – what we lack is the political will.
When a constituent asked a question during his telephone town hall on March 15 about the impact of military spending on greenhouse gas emissions, he said matter-of-factly, “As long as the military is the biggest institution in the country, it will be the biggest source of emissions.” He could have said he’s fighting to divest from the Pentagon. He could have called for reforms to curb military emissions. Instead, he just shrugged it off and accepted the reality.
Well, John, I can’t accept a reality that invests blank checks into the military-industrial complex and threatens the future of my child and every child on the planet just because Sherman thinks it’s okay. I’m sure the $250,000 he has taken from weapons makers and the over $5 million he has taken from Wall Street dictate his positions, but they don’t change the underlying truth – we need bold climate policy action now, and we need new representation with the guts to fight for it.
I’m so proud to have the endorsements of Sunrise Movement Los Angeles, the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, and Youth Climate Strike Los Angeles in our race to unseat Sherman here in CA-32. I’ll never stop fighting for a green economy that invests in us, not further entrenches the fossil fuel and weapons industries.
Donate today if you agree that we need a new slate of climate champions. Let’s do this!
