Dear John:

Thank you to everyone who participated in the many TDOV events last week, including our PFLAG families who visited with Vice President Kamala Harris, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, and Admiral Rachel Levine at the White House. What an incredible day! If you missed the event, learn more about who was there and how they advocated for trans equality and justice with our national leaders. They made us all #PFLAGProud!

Spreading messages of love and support, nationwide, via a new billboard campaign

Last week, we proudly announced a new partnership on a nationwide digital billboard campaign with our friends at Have A Gay Day, a non-profit LGBTQ+ organization based in Dayton, Ohio. The partnership launched in advance of Trans Day of Visibility, with hundreds of billboards displaying messages of support, hope, and encouragement for the LGBTQ+ community, centered on transgender and nonbinary youth and their families. We're proud to bring the power of PFLAG National--including financial resources, community support resources, and more--to this incredible campaign.

Three Steps to Being a Better Ally for Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month, and April 2nd was World Autism Awareness Day. Here are some ways to be an ally to Autistic people all month long:

  1. Learn: Visit Autism Society’s website to find resources to learn more about Autism Acceptance Month. Be sure to also check out this extensive list of resources from Autistic Self Advocacy Network.
  2. Watch: Watch March 24th’s episode of Something To Talk About Live! focused on LGBTQ+ identities and Neurodiversity. Look for media that includes LGBTQ+ autistic people, such as the Netflix show Love On The Spectrum, Amazon Prime's As We See It, or Freeform’s Everything’s Going To Be Okay.
  3. Share: Use social media to elevate the voices and stories of LGBTQ+ and disability rights advocates in their own words. Autistic Women & Nonbinary Network (AWN) and Autistic Self Advocacy Network are just a few great groups to follow and learn more about.

Call Your Senators: Vote YES for Judge Kentaji Brown Johnson

This historic nominee will be a justice for ALL, ensuring equal justice and protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ people and other communities, not just the wealthy and powerful. At a time when the rights of LGBTQ+ people are at stake across the country, it’s more important than ever to have an impartial and careful decision-maker on the Supreme Court. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is that person, and it's time for the Senate to confirm her to the highest court in the land.

Call your Senators at (202) 224-3121 to CONFIRM Judge Jackson!

Something to Talk About...Live!

The Significance of Being Counted

Without reliable demographics data, decision makers are at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to developing policies and programs that are responsive to the needs of their constituents. Up until 2021, the US Census Bureau did not collect any data on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Join us this Thursday, April 7th at 4:30 PM ET / 1:30 PM PT for Something To Talk About Live, where we will be discussing Julianne McShane’s article in The Washington Post, “A record number of U.S. adults identify as LGBTQ. Gen Z is driving the increase.” with Scout, MA PhD, Executive Director at the LGBT Cancer Network and Naomi Goldberg, Deputy Director at the Movement Advancement Project.

You can watch live on FacebookYouTubeLinkedIn, or Twitter.
