When Jim Hagedorn passed away, we knew the primary in MN-01 would be a race to the bottom. Like many campaigns to fill a spot in The 147, The Big Lie and blind loyalty to Trump has become a central test for any candidates looking to win over Hagedorn supporters.

And it looks like one candidate is standing out among all the rest: Jennifer Carnahan, wife of Jim Hagedorn and notorious promoter of 2020 election conspiracies.

If Jennifer Carnahan rings any bells for you, it’s because she was a part of one of the bigger scandals in recent Minnesota political history. While chair of the state Republican Party, Carnahan was forced to resign after her close personal friend and top fundraiser, Tony Lazzaro, was indicted for child sex trafficking.

Since the scandal, Carnahan has been booking Fox News appearances and building her credibility with the most extreme and anti-democratic forces in her state. That means catering herself to the darkest impulses of the Trump movement and becoming one of the most vocal supporters of The Big Lie out there.

Now she wants to ride that coalition to a victory in the special election in August.

We still don’t know the exact matchup to fill this 147 seat, but we know that our majority in the House is too small to sit this one out.
