NEWS FROM POWER TO DECIDE
Expanding Contraceptive Equity
We are proud to announce the launch of our new Contraceptive Equity Initiative ([link removed]) , which seeks to address barriers to contraception access through new research, policy analysis, and collaboration with partners in the field.
“Power to Decide has always lived at the happy confluence of research, policy and access,” wrote Power to Decide’s Senior Director of Content Bill Albert ([link removed]) in a blog on the new project. “These three foundational pursuits are also at the very heart of the organization’s new Contraceptive Equity Initiative.”

A State-by-State Guide to Abortion Access
Abortion Finder ([link removed]) —a product of Bedsider, Power to Decide’s birth control support network—is an easy-to-use search tool that provides up-to-date information about the availability of abortion care across the country. With more than 750 health centers, it’s the most comprehensive directory of trusted and verified abortion service providers in the United States.
We also have a regularly updated guide ([link removed]) for all 50 states (and DC) that details state abortion laws; offers statewide and regional resources to assist with costs, travel, and more; and helps people find a verified provider nearby.
Celebrating Women’s History
In honor of Women’s History Month, we celebrated pioneers in the field ([link removed]) who fought for the right to share information and access birth control, a DC-based clinic ([link removed]) dedicated to caring for mothers, their babies, and their community, and five Supreme Court cases ([link removed]) that shaped reproductive health in the US.
Plus, our CEO, Dr. Raegan McDonald-Mosley, wrote about why she’s grateful for birth control ([link removed]) . “There are a plethora of reasons—personal and professional—that I am thankful for birth control. I wouldn’t be here with an amazing life, dream job, awesome life-partner, kids, and dog without birth control. It has given me the power to decide my future on my own terms.”

Unexpected Returns
For the fifth consecutive season, we are proud that we will be TLC’s lead educational partner to help viewers use Unexpected to spark meaningful conversations about unplanned pregnancy! We know that teens want to hear from their parents and other adults in their lives about sex, love, relationships, and how to navigate it all. Throughout the season, we will provide viewers ([link removed]) with more ways to talk about unplanned pregnancy and use the situations to jumpstart your own conversations.
Catch the new episodes of Unexpected on Sundays at 10/9c! Or, catch up whenever you want on discovery+ ([link removed]) .
#FreeThePill
Want to help make birth control pills available over-the-counter, without a prescription or age restrictions? Young people can sign up here to participate ([link removed]) in an action where they’ll put “birth control pills” on the shelves of their student store and local drugstores to help folks imagine what it would look like if birth control pills were available over-the-counter.
POLICY UPDATES
FY 2022 Appropriations Bill Signed Into Law
On March 15, President Biden signed H.R 2471 ([link removed]) , an omnibus appropriations bill to fund the federal government through September 30, 2022. The bill includes level funding for the Title X Family Planning Program ($286.5 million) and the Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) Program ($101 million). We are disappointed that this appropriations bill does not include funding increases for the TPP Program and Title X, but we will continue to work with you and our Congressional champions until these programs have the resources, they need to adequately serve our communities. For more information about the bill, please see Power to Decide’s full statement ([link removed]) .
