Dear Friend,
“So inspiring.” “Impressed by her brilliance.” “She’ll make an exceptional
Supreme Court Justice.”
These are only a few of the words of praise Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson
received from U.S. Senators after last week’s contentious hearings. Even
Republican Senator Collins intends to vote Yes to confirm Judge Jackson to
the Supreme Court, stating, “I have concluded that she possesses the
experience, qualifications, and integrity to serve as an Associate Justice
on the Supreme Court. I will, therefore, vote to confirm her to this
position.” [ [link removed] ] Surprising? Not really, we know that Judge Jackson is
extremely qualified to serve so let’s make some noise and encourage our
U.S. Senators to confirm Judge Jackson!

Nomination hearings for judicial nominees are designed to bring to light a
judge’s records, qualifications, and showcase their methodology and
knowledge of the law, in addition to allowing the public to evaluate the
nominee and convey their assessment to their representatives.
Instead, over the course of three days and more than 20 hours of
testimony, Judge Jackson endured a hearing process that was wrought with
attacks, both sexist and racist. At times, Judge Jackson, the first Black
woman to be nominated to our nation’s highest court, was subject to
combative lines of questioning unrelated to the purpose of the hearing; to
be confirmed as the next justice of the Supreme Court of the United
States. It was evident that many Republican Senators were more concerned
with their own agenda than with the facts.
Time and time again, Judge Jackson demonstrated why she is qualified for
the Supreme Court. A brilliant legal mind with vast experience as a
district judge, appellate judge and public defender, Judge Jackson
exhibited respect and a deep knowledge of the Constitution and rule of
law. Throughout this process, Judge Jackson has been transparent,
answering questions, providing 70,000 pages regarding her time on the
Sentencing Committee and making time to meet with every member of the
Senate Judiciary Committee and 51 Senators.
Through it all, Judge Jackson persevered. Now it’s time for the Senate to
act quickly to confirm her.

The nomination of Judge Jackson is historic and inspirational to anyone
who has hope for our future. And it’s particularly meaningful to Black
women, young Black girls, and all people who see themselves and find
familiarity in Judge Jackson’s experiences, determination and various
achievements and beam with pride. We stand in solidarity with Judge
Jackson as do many others. Recent public pollings reported that Judge
Jackson is the most popular Supreme Court nominee in years. Judge Jackson
has broad support; 69 percent of small business owners surveyed believe
the Senate should confirm Judge Jackson to the Supreme Court. [2] Judge
Jackson has been before the Senate Judiciary Committee four times and has
been confirmed three times with bipartisan support, including just last
year to the United States Court of Appeals District of Columbia
Circuit. Finally, Judge Jackson would be the first Democratic nominee to
be confirmed since Elena Kagan in 2010! [ [link removed] ] What are you waiting for?

Now that we know what’s at stake, what’s next?
Well let’s recap: President Biden nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson,
then the Senate Judiciary Committee held 4 days of confirmation hearings
where U.S. Democratic and Republican Senators questioned Judge Jackson
about her qualifications and record as a judge. This week, the Senate
Judiciary Committee will vote on whether or not to confirm Judge Jackson
and before the week is out, the full Senate will vote on Judge Jackson’s
nomination.
This means that you still have time to make an impact! Call on your
Senators to vote YES to confirm Judge Jackson. Let’s make history and be a
part of history by getting the first Black woman confirmed to the Supreme
Court of the United States!
Thanks for all you do in the name of equity and justice,
